Dedicated Deck Builder in Princeton, New Jersey

Creating Outdoor Spaces That Princeton Families Love

Princeton is an older town, and the houses show it. Deep lots, mature trees, homes that have been added onto for a hundred years. A lot of the backyards we see weren’t built with a deck in mind, so the job is usually fitting one to a house and a grade that are already there.

We are a deck builder in Princeton, NJ. We design and build decks, patios, and pergolas for homeowners who’d rather host dinner on their own deck than pack up and drive somewhere for it.

Some people want a small deck off the kitchen for morning coffee and nothing more. Some want enough room to fit the whole family for the Fourth of July. We build for both. And we’ll tell you straight which materials hold up in New Jersey weather and which ones will have you sanding and staining every couple of years.

We’ve been building decks in this area for almost forty years. That’s long enough that we’ve walked back onto jobs we finished a decade ago and watched them still hold up. It’s also the reason most of our calls come from people who live a few doors down from someone we already built for.

Why Homeowners Choose My Deck In Princeton

We’re deck contractors in Princeton. We design the deck, build it, and pull the permits and handle the inspections most homeowners don’t want to touch.

  • Building Since 1986: Almost forty years of decks in this part of New Jersey. The winters here are hard on a deck, and building in one climate that long is why we know what survives them.
  • Straight Talk on Trade-Offs: Wood looks great and costs less up front. It also needs sanding and staining every couple of years. We tell you that before you sign, not after.
  • The Size Sets the Price: A small landing off the back door costs less than a deck you can fit a table and a grill on. Tell us the size and we’ll quote it before we start.
  • Materials That Hold Up Here: We build with Trex, TimberTech, and MoistureShield. Wood rots and warps through our freeze-thaw winters. These boards don’t.
  • Permits Handled: We pull the permits and we’re there when the township inspector shows up. You never call the town.

Since 1986, we’ve built in one climate, so we already know what these winters do to a deck and we build for it.

What We Build in Princeton: Decks, Patios, and More

Custom Deck Builders near me in Hillsborough NJ - Deck installation and construction

Decks are the bulk of what we do, but a deck is usually part of a bigger plan. We also build patios, outdoor kitchens, and covered structures, and on a lot of jobs those go in together so the back of the house ends up working as one space instead of three separate projects.

Deck Construction

Princeton lots tend to slope, which is the main reason so many of our builds come out multi-level instead of a single platform sitting off the back door. We handle the harder setups too: rooftop decks, decks wrapped around a pool or spa, and inlay patterns set into the floorboards when a homeowner wants the surface itself to be the feature. Whatever it looks like on top, the framing underneath has to carry the load and pass township inspection, and that’s the part we don’t shortcut.

Decking Materials

The first call is wood or composite, and for most people it comes down to how much upkeep they’re willing to take on.

If you want natural wood, we point you to Ipe. It’s a dense hardwood that lasts for decades, but it needs sanding and resealing every couple of years to hold its color. If you’d rather not deal with that, composite is the better fit, and we build with Trex, TimberTech, MoistureShield, and Deckorators. None of them rot, and they keep their shape through the freeze-thaw winters that split and warp cheaper boards. We’ll tell you what each one runs and what it’ll ask of you over the years before you commit to a deckful.

Outdoor Living Structures

If you want shade or you want to keep the bugs out, this is the part of the yard most people add second. We build porches, gazebos, pergolas, sunrooms, and screen rooms. We also install Apollo louvered roof systems, where the slats tilt open for sun or close tight when it rains, and 3- and 4-season enclosures that let you keep using the room into the colder months. These get framed and flashed into the house the same way an addition does, so water stays out and the roofline doesn’t look tacked on.

Deck Features

The features are where a deck stops being a platform and starts being finished. We install railing in composite, metal, and cable; cable is the one people pick when they don’t want the rail blocking the view. We add underdeck dryspace systems, which catch the water coming through the boards and give you dry storage or a usable spot underneath. And we run lighting: low lights on the stairs so nobody misses a step after dark, and LEDs under the rail for when you’re out there at night.

Patios & Pavers

A patio is the option when you want to sit at ground level instead of up on a deck. We lay them in pavers, natural stone, and stamped concrete. If you cook out a lot, we can build the fire pit, the fireplace, or the outdoor kitchen right into the patio so you’re not hauling a grill out every time. We set the layout to follow the lines of your house and yard instead of dropping a square in the middle of the grass.

Deck Remodeling & Resurfacing

If your deck is fifteen or twenty years old, you usually don’t need to tear it down. A lot of the time the framing is still sound and it’s the boards on top that have gone soft or splintery, so we pull those and put down new ones. When the layout itself stopped working, we rework it. Either way an older deck has to be brought back up to current code before we hand it back, because the rules have changed since most of these were first built, and that’s where the safety actually comes from.
